Board & Train at Boot CampTM
Boot Camp is a 3-week intensive board and train program that takes place in the home of one of our behavior experts, and their respective family. Boot Camp is kept to a maximum of three dogs at a time so your dog will receive all the training, exercise, and attention they need and deserve.
In 3 weeks your dog will learn and perform (despite distance, duration, or distraction):
- Come: When called, every time!
- Heel: Sit beside you
- Settle: Go lie down and relax
- Leave It: Ignore something
- Drop: Let go, spit something out
- Sit, Stand and Down: Basic body positioning
- Stay: Don't move
- Wait: Waiting at open doors, food bowls, etc. - practices arousal control
- Touch: Targeting exercise that focuses their energy to one place
- Say Hi: Polite greeting with strangers
- Up and Off: Hop up or down from the car, or furniture (e.g. bed, couch, chair)
- Loose Leash Walking: Walk politely without pulling
- General Manners: No jumping, illegal chewing, nipping, or general naughtiness.
During your dog's stay with us, we will send you regular photos, videos and updates of their progress and experience. Your dog will have the time of their life playing, exercising, training, and being apart of the family. Don't fall for other Board and Train programs that use kennels, isolation, and promise complete control with the use of inhumane training techniques. Unlike many other Board & Train programs, The Pawsitive Packleader only accepts one puppy at a time and a total maximum of three dogs to stay with us. Acquired Bite Inhibition (ABI): The first three months you have your puppy is the most critical time in their entire life. One reason for this is that it is the only time period where we can manipulate how strong a dog bites. In fact, the information we can teach a puppy about their mouth will not only carry into the rest of their life, but there has also never been a single puppy euthanized for biting if they have received good ABI training. This is because a puppy who learns good ABI will never break human skin as the result of an aggressive display. How can this be possible? A dog with good ABI training can stop a bite in 4 thousandths of a second (.004s)!! That's faster then a flap of a hummingbird's wing.
Socialization: Proper socializing is the most critical component to raising a confident, happy, friendly puppy. Socializing that is done right will help ensure that you have the puppy of your dreams, while improper socializing can be the cause of aggression, fear, chronic anxiety, and chronic illness. Major behavioral problems that arise in dogs are almost solely due to a history of improper socialization as a puppy. Because we know the behavioral importance of socialization, we have the most comprehensive socialization program in the Pacific Northwest!
Guarding Prevention: Guarding is a common behavioral problem our company works on. Guarding behavior includes: resource guarding (e.g. food, toys, people), location guarding (e.g. couch, bed, door), and body sensitivity (i.e. dogs who guard their own physical space). One common misconception is that guarding is a sign of an aggressive dog, however this couldn't be further from the truth. Guarding is the product of a poor history of exchanges and can easily be prevented with active training while dogs are puppies.
