If you have ever felt frustrated with your dog's training, take comfort knowing you are not alone. Millions of dog owners across the country are met with the same feelings, many who take great pride in the energy they devote to training their dog, but who still don't accomplish their goals. The art of leading a dog in a positive, fulfilling path is not second nature and trying to weed out the good dog information from the bad is not an easy task. We live in a world saturated with quick-dog-fixes, but as so many discover, these remedies address only the symptoms of a dog’s behavior, not the causes. In order to successfully share a relationship with our dogs that is easy, fluid and stress free, we must understand and address the causes. When we eliminate a symptom without addressing the cause, we only force another symptom to emerge. By channeling your dog's energy, not breaking it, you will discover a horizon of new possibilities for both you and your dog.

Meet the Owners

Prescott Breeden, CCS

Dog Training Dog Behavior Dog Exercise Training SeattlePrescott Breeden has had a passion for dogs since he was six years old. His first dog, a large black Labrador Retriever named Rex, was his greatest friend and helped Prescott explore the countless woods of northern Virginia. As a child he had never read a book on dog training, his parents knew nothing of animal behavior, and he did not know about choke chains or clickers, yet it was an incredible friendship built entirely on the words, "Let's go!". His uncle, a veterinarian, showed Prescott the profound relationship that is possible with dogs. Every summer Prescott visited his uncle and was immersed in an environment of dogs that were neither beaten nor spoiled. They were simply friends and their relationship did not require bribery, intimidation or battery.

The Pawsitive Packleader breaks away from the misplaced emphasis on dominance and obedience in training. The most important factor in any relationship is a foundation of trust. While every owner may feel that he or she is capable of making their dog trust them, the truth is that not every dog will share the same view. It takes time, dog training seattle dog behavior seattle dog trainerpredictability and consistency through a reward-based lifestyle for a dog to develop trust. The fundamental principle in our dog training is that rewards are not exclusive to food. We teach clients the countless life-rewards that are available everyday and how to use them to work towards building trust and obedience without being forced to have a cookie in your pocket.

With a strong foundation of scientific knowledge in animal learning theory, animal behavior, behavioral neuroscience and motivation, Prescott employs simple techniques that develop powerful synapses in the dog’s brain to make them smarter, faster and to have better control of their emotions. This is balanced with a deep, scientific understanding of the canine social structure and how it relates to family life. So whether it's training to help a dog integrate better into their family and household, hiking with off-leash control, or simply developing games and mutually fun activities, Prescott will teach you the necessary tools needed for a lifetime of success.

Prescott is also a writer and has published articles both locally and nationally about dog training, behavior and dog nutrition. You can find some selected articles under the Publications page.

Patti Howard, BS, CCS

Dog nutrition behavior trainingEver since Patti could remember, dogs have been her sanctuary.  Like many of us, nothing in life could pull her away from her love of them.  Even in her start, she opened her own training studio and pet specialty store--committed to challenging owners to give their dogs an even better life.  Patti received her Bachelor of Science in nutrition and through extensive continuing education she has become a Certified Canine Nutrition Specialist.  But what really sets Patti aside from other nutrition experts is her complete foundation in canine studies.  Patti graduated from the Seattle School of Canine Studies where she continued to hone her incredible diagnostic skills with canine behavior modification.  It was at this point where Patti began to apply her nutrition programs not only for improving health, but also improving behavior.  The Pawsitive Packleader is proud to be in the forefront of this research and could not be more impressed with the results her clients achieve.  Patti is an inspirational student of science, a born teacher, and her passion for dogs is unparalleled.
